There were a number of unintended consequences as a result of the privatization of military housing. MISA is very supportive of quality housing for military families. The organization worked with Congress to address the unintended consequences of military housing and ensure support for military children and the families. Programs that were affected by the privatization were income-driven programs. Due to an accounting procedure on the military members leave and earnings statement (LES), many military children living in base housing would no longer qualify for the program. MISA worked with Congress and governmental agencies to ensure that nothing changed when a military housing area was privatized military children and families qualifying for programs would continue to qualify for the programs. Programs that were affected by the housing privatization and LES and have now been resolved include:
MISA is working with Congress to include Food Stamps under the income disregard program. |
